History

Lar dos Velhinhos was founded on March 15, 1961, with the goal of following in the footsteps of Saint Vincent de Paul, patron saint of charitable works, and Saint Louise de Marillac, patron saint of social works. The visionaries and founders of the Company of Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent and Saint Louise had the mission of caring for needy people in their homes and hospitals.

The activities began with Maria da Glória Freitas Quintella (Sister Celina), along with a group of young people, attending to elderly people in their homes. With the increase in demand for services, Sister Celina proposed to the group the creation of a home for the elderly, an environment where seniors could have dignified housing with all the rights provided by law.
